That is my fun title for today because I tried out that new “gym” after work today. I think a while ago, I saw this place on the newspaper or a friend talked about it. http://www.athleticplayground.com/
So I made the trek to emeryville and took the 1 hour exercise class. It was a pretty tough class that kicked my butt hard. Especially since I didn’t bring a water bottle, so I think I got slightly dehydrated at the end.
There were some funny exercises that we did for warm up. One was we were walking around crab style (just like a kid), and I would give people feet high fives. =) That was really fun.
Then to the workout circuit, it was 20 minutes long. I got this one guy as my partner, and he was in better shape than me (or had more water in him). We were pushing hard on our workout, I just wanted to pass out after it all. Each thing was do it for 2 minutes as many as you can.
1) 5 pull-ups, then 5 flag poles per side (where you make yourself go horizontal by putting your hand on the “ladder”
2) Feet are latched into wheel. Wheelbarrow yourself with your arms to the other side. Flip onto your back, lift your hips and move legs in and out 5 times. Then worm crawl your way back.
3) Do this set 5 times, hold an exercise ball above head, do a squat and then 2 jumps, then jump one leg up and down on the side of the mat 10 times.
4) Hang on monkey bar and pull legs up and around (like a windshield). Then standing on the plastic block do a handstand walk
5) the superman banana, rolling on your abs
We did that circuit 2 times, and I was done. However I really enjoyed that place. So I will come back next week for more monkey and start going to their parkour class.
The second cool thing was after the workout, I was driving to church for young adult fellowship. But I was so thristy, that I dropped by the jamba juice in hayward. There I had a pretty interesting conversation with the cashier.
The pastor had challenged us to be better stewards with our money. So he challenged us to write Luke 12:21 on our credit card. Which would remind us to remember to be rich in God, and not just store up for myself earthly riches.
Anyways the cashier asked me what it was. So I told him the above, and I guess that was a nice “reminder motivation” for him. Found out that he went to a pentacostal church around there.
Then I started to talk to him about my workout at Athetic Playground, because I was still feeling it (if you looked at me, my arms were both laying down on the counter trying to breath). Talked about learning parkour, and this guy told me that he is training every night with his crew, because they were training for parkour paintball. That sounded so cool, and the guy even gave me his number so if I ever wanted to practice with them, I could go there. =). Also found out he was a martial arts teacher.
Then I finally made it to the church.
