Seattle Vacation With Jason Day:1

I went to visit my friend Jason in seattle for vacation. So excited, and the best part of my trip is the days I took off. Since I don’t have kids or anything, I pick random days to take off. This trip is going to be a friday thru wednesday trip. 2 days hanging out with jason, then 2 days hanging out by myself. Winking smile

I really enjoy using google docs to make a vacation schedule. My favorite part of the schedule is where I highlight “sleeping/rest time”. Then I just kind of mark random things along.

Since I tried wanted to not really bother too many people, I walked from my house with my red luggage case all the way to the BART station. I walked past a couple people, and one guy went “getting your exercise in?”. As he smiled walking by.

I get onto bart and it is interesting taking air bart to the airport. The bus I was using was a employee transfer bus. The reason I know this is because there is only one door to get on the bus. That door is in the middle of the bus. The driver stops the vehicle, then walks over and opens the doors.

As I was taking the bus, there was another guy just chatting with the driver about the new bart to oakland airport tram. That project is just about done, but the tram will be really expensive to what it costs air bart right now. Right now it cost $3, taking the tram will make it $6 dollars.

Anyways, back to my flight. I leave from Oakland, and get to seattle around 2pm. IMAG1981

The sea-tac airport is pretty cool, and the weather was really nice today. Not overcast or cloudy. I actually got really lucky over the weekend, because I didn’t really pack any warm clothes, or too many rainy weather items. When I first walked out, I thought it would be oakland warm around low 70’s/high 60’s. However, it was more like SF Warm (around low 60’s). It was pretty cold standing out there for my friend to pick me up.

Itinery #1: So I made my friend drive to my company’s seattle office.

That office is really small, but when you walk in. It looks just like the office in pleasanton. There was actually a lady that worked the front desk, it was really funny when I walked in. She looked at me, tried to figure out who I was. Then I told her that I worked in pleasanton, and asked if she would show me around the office. From walking around this office, I noticed only 2 people in there. Everyone leaving early on fridays.

Then after that, we went to Jason’s place to prepare for the night. So for dinner we went to lunchbox laboratory in belluvue. That place is pretty cool, and you can tell it is pretty young town, because I saw a lot of young adults eating there, and working in the area.

The lunchbox laboratory’s owner really loves to collect old school lunchpails. You can see the pails in the top left. We had a really nice waiter, who helped me out a lot in choosing what to eat.

This was a really tasty appetizer, it was called a “Dork Ball”. It is a duck/pork battered in corn bread. Served in a balsamic seasoning. I really enjoyed it, and the churken burger. IMAG1986

There is Jason smiling, or whatever that is he is doing.

One of the things I have been trying to do is limit how much food I eat. So I eat until I am full. I ate around 3/4 of the burger, then had no more.

So then we went south to columbia city theater to go to a concert. Before going to the concert we dropped by near an ice cream place called “full tilt” ice cream. Jason was telling me that the person that made the ice cream, would come up with his own flavors and make it in his house behind the store.

I ended up with a gingerbread flavor, and chocolate mint. There was an interesting flavor that I wanted to try because of the name. I walked in and saw a flavor called “blue moon”. In my mind, I was thinking that might be the beer. However, as I got closer, I saw the ice cream was blue, so I asked him what flavor it was. It turns out to be cotton candy flavored. Sad smile I really wanted it to be beer.

Then we walked around the area and went into the columbia city theatre. It is kind of a part place. There is a beer area, and in the far back, there are doors that lead to the theater in the back.

So as we sit down inside there is a small band just playing music in the background. The girl on the left was the bassist, and the other guy that is playing by himself was the lead.

I really like waitlists, it is really interesting how you just walk up and tell the person your name. There is a 3 second where if your eyes are really fast, you could look down and say the name of someone on the list. Smile However, it could be a very tricky play, especially if the people are behind you.

However, since I am chinese, usually nobody will guess my name, so there are times the person at the front might be able to guess my name without me having to tell them. Smile

The bands for that night were dead ship sailing, fey moth, I will keep your ghost.

All these bands have a “EDM” sound to them. where they play electric music. I really liked “I will keep your ghost” it is 2 guys, one on electric keyboard, and other one on lead guitar. The keyboardist also control most of the drum machine beats. I think they had really good stage presence. My favorite moment was nearing the end of their set, the keyboardist just takes his beer walks off the stage and goes into the crowd, and starts dancing and cheering from the front as the guitarist is going into a lick. Then after 5 minutes, he walks back on stage to finish up their last song.

While fey moth had this one girl would really love to hit the drums. She has this one drum in front of her that she hits while she is singing. If you wanted to see someone hitting the drum with conviction, I would give her a 10. However that band didn’t really have too many sounds. So it felt really long.

Then for “dead ship sailing” I think they were pretty good, but I couldn’t stay too long because Jason had to get home.

We got back around 12:30 ish, and then we just went to sleep to prepare for the next day.
